Erstwhile BCA and Continuum sales and marketing man Phil Godsell has set up his own publishing company, Soundcheck Books, specialising in titles about popular music.
The first offering is Jumpin’ in the Fire, the autobiography of ex-Ducks Deluxe and Tyla Gang frontman Sean Tyla. Ian Dury biographer Will Birch supplies the foreword. This book is set to capitalise on the revival of interest in Pub Rock and the 1970s music scene generally.
There is a launch for the book at one of London’s top music pubs The Half Moon in Putney on the 20th October, where a reformed Tyla Gang will be playing a set.
Commented Godsell ‘I’ve had the idea of starting my own company in the back of mind for a while, and although the trading climate is difficult at the moment I am relishing the challenge. Much of my career in publishing has been spent with Christian books (which with a name like Godsell was inevitable), but I have a passion for music and have always wanted to produce great books about the subject.’
Sales representation and distribution for the fledgling publisher is by Turnaround Publisher Services.
