Write For Us

If you are an established author, or an agent, then please either call or drop us an e-mail with any book ideas you have or just for an informal chat about what we could do together. It will be a refreshing experience for you working with Soundcheck Books – you won’t be fobbed off with an inexperienced editor or marketing executive – you’ll be dealing with the person that owns it and is determined to make a success of it.

If you’ve never written anything before then we suggest you send us 2 or 3 chapters of the book you are proposing (preferably via e-mail) along with an idea of who will read it and why. We only publish music-related non-fiction, primarily in the genres of prog rock, heavy/classic rock, punk, folk and country/americana. However, if you’ve got a really good idea outside of these, we are happy to listen.

Please don’t send your only copy of manuscripts or books you’ve previously published (sounds obvious,  but it does happen and we can’t be held responsible if they get lost).

Like most publishers we pay an advance (normally 50% on signature of contract and the rest on receipt of finished manuscript) and a royalty on all sales after the advance has been earned out, but we’re happy to discuss other publication models.

The book’s standard of editing is very high – welcomingly so, considering the slipshod proofreading I’ve come across in some music biographies – David Kidman (music journalist)

The book is well-edited with no repetition and no spelling howlers that I detected – Dai Woosnam (music journalist)
